Everything to Me – Thankful for Equines

thank youI’m not alone when I’m with you. I’m not afraid when I’m with you. I’m not bored when I’m with you. I’m everything when I’m with you — my equine friends.

They’re all that race through my mind every day and I am extremely thankful for them. Thank you horses for bringing joy, amazement, thrill, and many blissful days into my life. You are number one on my ‘What I am Thankful For’ list this Thanksgiving. Equines have brought me back from many meltdowns, made countless bad days into good ones, and turned tears into laughter.

One of the most memorable times I’ve seen horses put a smile on someone’s face happened just the other day. It was even more enjoyable for me because I was a part of it and it wasn’t my face the smile was on, it was on another little girl. Here’s the story.

My friend and I were at the stable helping our trainer. At one point we were watching dressage because there was a show that day. I noticed a little girl and her mom standing next to me. The little girl had a huge grin on her face. A little later, the girl and her mom started talking to my friend, our trainer, and me. Eventually we took them on a tour of the barn and the little girl (I forget her name) stopped at every horse, read their name, and petted them. She smiled and jabbered on the whole time. But I put up with it since I knew how much it meant to her and her mom, to see her so happy and able to enjoy the warmth of equines. The little girl was extremely cute. Her mom talked to some people about the lesson program. I hope she starts lessons at my stable because that would make me so, so happy.

Anyway the point of this story is to show everyone at Girls Horse Club that it is VERY important to be thankful for our equine friends — not just on Thanksgiving or during the holidays but every day — and to show how anyone can bring the love of horses into any little girls heart.

So this holiday season, be thankful for horses and do something nice for another horse-loving girl.
