BREED HISTORY

BREED CHARACTERISTICS

Descended from horses brought to North America by the Spanish conquistadors, American Paint horses roamed with the wild herds of the western deserts and plains. Native American and cowboy alike admired the Paint for her beauty, heart, and athletic ability.

The American Paint horse got its name from its unique coat coloration of splashes of white. The white patterns fall into three categories: Overo, Tobiano, and Tovero. Paint horses are stock horses and must be registered with the APHA, the AQHA, or the Jockey Club.
