Always Remembered

My heart broke in two when Star, my riding horse in 2005-2006, retired. He was the best. He saved me from death at times. He cared and loved me, as I did him.

It was another Saturday, and my mum and I walked to where Star’s stall was. I looked forward to this day because we were going to learn something new. But when I walked further, I saw his name plate on the stall was gone. The closer I walked, the more I feared. And my fear came true. There was no soft whinny greeting me. His pure white head didn’t come out to say hello. Star was no longer there.

I immediately asked my instructor what had gone wrong, if he got sick, where he was, and so on. She said he retired, and had moved to a retirement ranch where they didn’t really do anything except graze and enjoy the last few years of their lives. When those words came out, I sobbed. I couldn’t take it. My alternative riding horse, Jazz, was okay, but he definitely wasn’t as sweet as Star. I always called Star ‘The White Angel’ because he was as white as sugar, and always sweet and loving like an angel.

That day, I rode Jazz and went home. I didn’t want to face the truth that Star was gone. I would never be updated on how he was, or if he went to heaven already. Never. Never again.

It was a couple months before I could get over it, but I did. And I always, always, will keep him in my heart, and remember the great times with him. The thing I’ll remember most is his love for me.

  5. In Memory Of Star
    ……………………………………………………………………………………………..

Galloping Through the night in a filed of stars that shine
I see a horse ghost white, one that once was mine
I know that white mane, I know that gentle call
Star is in my heart once and for all
I know him well and so he knows me
Without him I’ll never be complete
So with these good byes comes great pain
But a horse called Star TOUCHED MY LIFE and I’ll never be the same

  8. Mustangmane I am so sorry! I lost a horse to, but he was not mine, he didn’t die ether. My grandfather sold him. I went to visit him at his new home, and it was horrible! The horses with him had bloody wounds and deformed hooves! The barn stunk horridly! I felt sooo bad for him and his friends. I pray every night that he gets a new home.by the way- great poem Violet! Horses rock![And so do cats!]
