Be Like a Horse

Happy New YearWELCOME to 2013! Do you make resolutions or set goals to help guide you in the direction of your horse dreams? I tend to have goals and intentions throughout the year, but there’s something about January 1st that feels like a blank canvas on which to create something new and beautiful — an opportunity to let go of the past and step into an adventure-filled present.

As humans, we have a tendency to get caught up in our heads, re-thinking the past and pondering the future, at times missing out on something amazing in the here-and-now. Animals are such great companions and complements to humans because they don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future. They live in the moment. When you’re on the back of a 1,000+ pound flight animal, you have to stay present. Your horse relies on you to be aware of your surroundings and tuned into him/her, and you rely on your horse to do the same.

So the next time you feel your brain swirling around in the past or future, causing feelings of worry or anxiety, ground yourself by thinking like a horse, coming back to the moment, tuning into your surroundings, and thinking about what you can do NOW to find peace and realize your dreams. That’s what I intend to do in 2013.

How do you plan to have a horsey new year?
