Blue Skies

Published by • Oct 4th, 2011 • Category: LeadMare Tales

Blue skies were abundant during My Colorado Horse Adventure. They covered miles and miles of  trails traversed atop a trusty, sure-footed horse…

They peeked through the gently flickering leaves of the Aspen trees that are abundant in the Rocky Mountains…

And blue skies watched over the herd as they enjoyed dinner after a hard day’s work.

It’s when I’m outside my daily routine, surrounded by nature under the vast blue sky, that blue sky thoughts fill my head and heart. By definition, blue sky thinking is impractical — not grounded in reality — but I don’t let that deter me from believing my wildest dreams can turn into some form of reality.

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

~ The White Queen
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

Soon I’ll step outside my daily routine again as I head to Central America, where I’ll participate in a Habitat for Humanity build. Although the journey is not centered around horses, this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came about because of my connection to horses. The trip is part of a program that sponsors applicants who demonstrate a history of community service, and my volunteer work with therapeutic riding programs, Girls Horse Club, and other efforts helped me qualify.

So why am I telling you this? Because I want you to know your wildest blue sky thoughts can take shape in reality, as  long as you believe and are willing to take action. I want you to know your love for horses will lead you to new experiences that fill your head and heart with blue skies. And I want you to know  your connection to horses *and* horse people will open doors that lead to more blue skies.

  1. I totally agree with you Leadmare! This isn’t a horsey thing, but it is a “blue sky” thing… I have a favorite rock star that I’ve listened to ever since I was three, and I always dreamed of meeting him and going to one of his concerts, but everyone said it was impossible. Well, last weekend, I got to HOST one of his concerts, announce him at two different events, pick him up and drop him off at the airport, AND take him sightseeing all around my country! It was totally incredible and it never would have happened if I didn’t have the guts to dream about it and pray about it for years! So ANYTHING is possible!

  2. Beautiful pictures, LeadMare! :) Congrats on Habitat for Humanity! Hope you have a wonderful time :)

  3. Those are some BEAUTIFUL pictures, Leadmare! And congrats with Habitat for Humanity! :)

  4. Gypsy Vanner, that’s so exciting! Congratulations on believing in your dream, even when others told you to give it up.

The photos were actually taken with my phone camera using a very cool app called Hipstamatic. I found that lugging my big camera on the trails was a pain, so most days I just brought my phone. I’ll definitely be bringing my cameras to Guatemala and am hoping to see some horses!

  5. I think it sounds great! When I went trail riding at a campsite, blue skies were spread all around us, I like to look through the leaves and see the blue sky in between the trees. My dad brought his phone and we took great pictures with a cool app. Cool horse trip!

  6. HI! I LOVE your pictures they are amazing!

  7. When I was at outdoor education this last week, I was also surrounded with blue skies. And not only did they fill my mind with hopefull thoughts, it also showed me how amazing God’s power is to create this earth!

  8. Poetic writing, pictorial prose…just shared your site yet again this eve with a 10yo rider/barn goddess who will no doubt catch up w/you on your return from your fabulous adventure with Habitat. Meanwhile, I’ll be tweeting and sharing this post this coming week for “Take it outside week” starting Sunday, as I can’t think of a more serene, worthy setting for hangin under the blue sky, dreamin big. Keep up the great work “Lead Mare!” ;-)

  9. Amy, thanks for your support over the years, and for your commitment to creating positive change for kids through ShapingYouth.org!
