Hey there, horse girls!

Recently, I had my first lesson since the summer and I decided to share it with all of you. Since my mind isn’t working properly and I can’t form a good story idea, I thought; what’s better than real life stories?

Taking that leap from hacks to lessons was something that made me very anxious, but I gathered the courage and did it. As we travelled towards the stables, I told myself it would be fine, that I’d ride Precious. A horse I know. It turns out that that wasn’t quite the case.

I was told that I’d be riding Crystal, a chestnut Thoroughbred mare. The news made butterflies start whirling around my stomach. My mum had ridden the mare on a previous hack, but I’d never ridden her before. I didn’t know what she was like.

Not able to back out, I sucked up all my nervousness and got on Crystal. She felt so much different to Precious. The lesson went well. We did circles, trotting and work without stirrups. Though she was different and strange compared to Precious, at least I had conquered a fear and spent time with a new horse.

Crystal is such a willing horse, and I’m glad to have experienced the chance to ride her. With summer here, I will be given the chance to ride more and hopefully have a few more lessons.
