Forever Free

by Madelaina, age 14

My mesmerism is the way you blaze,
Across a land that surrenders a roar,
And dark are times, yet you’ll always amaze,
Showing us the paths we never explore.

I regret not being there when you’re caught,
Then perhaps could I give help where wanted;
I, at least, would then repay what I’m taught
When you galloped, free and so undaunted.

In seas, you are, each one a different light,
Breathing mighty breaths, each beat of heart’s true,
Purest veins run at your rhythm of flight
Found where frisking tides and burly wind blew.

Horses, they’re defying any restrain.
So caught, they are, but free they will remain.

  1. I love this! It’s not a typical poem about wild horses, & I love the way you write it from the viewpoint of after they’re gone.
