In Memory of Silver

by My Horse and Me, age 12

I can imagine Silver as a colt. He was probably black then. Slowly he turned into the white horse he is now. As he grew up and was broken in, I’m sure he was probably always sweet and gentle as he is now.

Silver is a white horse who has been owned by the stables where I ride for a very long time. He has always been the horse that the beginners have learned to ride on. He has been at the stables longer than me. He has always been sweet and I’ve never doubted him. He was put down recently. :( Sigh, it is really going to be different with him gone. But I know that putting him down was the most merciful thing to do. He was old and sick. However, I know many riders owe a lot to him. He was just about a perfect horse. Where he is sleeping I do not know , but I hope he is resting in some lush green pasture. The stables where I ride has recently suffered the loss of this wonderful horse and, now the stables has two new foals. :)

If God picks special horses for heaven, Silver would definitely be on that list. Silver we love you and miss you and I hope one of the new foals will be named after you.

Imagine a horse as white as snow
A horse like that I know

He was a horse we could depend on
Of this horse many were fond

He taught us all so much
Like walking, trotting and such

Now Silver, go to sleep
And for you we will weep

  1. CHampion blog. I know how you feel… ive lost 2 dear animal friends of mine in the last several years. I hope you have many more foals to share your love with

  2. I know how it hurts to lose a horse you love, My horse and Me.

  3. He sounds like a pony I used to have. His name was Kiawa. Sweet, kind and patient are the word that best describe him:) We had to put him to sleep as well. It was the hardest day of my life. I was only 9 and didn’t understand, but now I do and I have three wonderful(if sometimes stubborn) horses to fill his place until we meet again, which I’m sure we will someday:)

You write very well and meaningfully, keep up the great work!

  4. That was really pretty and sad, horse and me. I know exactly how you feel.

  5. Oh, how sweet!!!!!!!!! I have tears in my eyes. I hope your okay. I mean, it must be hard for you. I wish you luck, and I hope the foals will be close to what Silver was.
