Muck the Gift Pile
Published by LeadMare • Aug 31st, 2008 • Category: Competitions & GiveawaysTime’s up! Thanks to everyone who entered the Muck the Book Pile giveaway. Winners will be announced here on the GHC blog soon…
While you’re waiting to hear who won the 5 prizes in our Muck the Book Pile giveaway, it’s time to start mucking the gift pile! The prizes are a potpourri of entertaining and/or informational horse things. Once again, luck is all you need to win, as long as you’re willing to tell a little story about your horse things. Please read below for details about the prizes, how to enter, and giveaway rules…
GIFT #1 is a fuzzy bay horse to hold your cell phone or to use as a small purse. It measures about 5 inches long by 3 inches wide and comes with a short handle strap (pictured on the holder) and a longer shoulder strap. On the back is a small zippered pocket for holding money, keys, etc. and loops so you can attach it to your belt. This is SO cute I couldn’t resist buying it for the gift pile.
GIFT #2 is a set of miniature tack. It was designed to go with a very cool AG mini*s horse stable (pictured here) once sold by American Girl. Although they no longer sell the stable, it originally came with a Breyer horse so all this tack will fit a Classic size model (1:12 scale). Note that it will NOT fit the larger Traditional size model (1:9 scale). Pieces included: Western and English saddles and bridles, riding boots, riding helmet, grooming kit, 2 magnetic saddle racks, and 2 magnetic bridle hooks.
GIFT #3 is a Breyer grooming kit, designed for Traditional size Breyer models (1:9 scale). It includes a wooden grooming box, sweat scraper, body brush, face brush, curry comb, clippers, mud scraper, hoof pick, and hoof liniment — everything a girl needs to groom her model horse herd.
GIFT #4 is a Horse Show card game by Gamewright. It’s designed for 2-4 players ages 8 and up. Horse Show is a strategic game based on horse shows, where players learn about authentic tack and actual show events. The horses themselves are the game’s ‘mane’ characters. The object of the game is to win the most blue ribbon cards and ride to victory. It includes 32 unique horse cards, 12 assist cards, 15 blue ribbon cards and rules of play.
GIFT #5 is a set of Golden Horse Shu trading cards, Series 2. Each card has a beautiful photo of a real horse on the front with information about that horse on the back. Also included are some ‘special’ cards: Cameo cards have info about a particular breed or sport; Fame cards depict famous horses Big Ben and Misty; and Focus cards highlight something interesting about the world of horses. Altogether there are 67 cards in excellent condition. Please note that a few of the cards are missing. I suspect horse thieves… ;)
GIFT #6 is a DVD of Women in American Horse Racing. (GHC preview here and behind-the-scenes look here), a documentary produced by American Storyboard that was a 2008 Billie Award finalist honoring media excellence in the portrayal of girls and women in sports. The DVD has interviews with women who are active in thoroughbred racing, from jockeys to executives and from grooms to vets. Click here for a preview video clip of Women in American Horse Racing.
GIFT #7 is another DVD titled Our First Horse. Owning a horse can be a great joy, but knowing what it takes is essential for a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Our First Horse features experts from Purdue University who answer questions about equine ownership. The 15-minute video covers many topics including riding lessons, how to pick the right horse, basic care and nutrition, equipment, and more. Click here for preview video clips.
TO ENTER
Whether they have access to *real* horses or not, horse-crazy girls tend to surround themselves with horse things — games, clothing, decor, jewelry, etc. Some of those things are simply mementos of the animals we love, but others take on special meaning because of how they came to be our things.
To enter the giveaway, write a comment that tells us about your favorite horse thing, and why it’s so special to you. For examples, see my recent blog Horse Things. Along with your short story, include up to 7 prize choices in order of preference (example: my choices are 1, 4, 7, 5, 2, 6, 3).
IMPORTANT: Please don’t enter unless you’ve checked with a parent to make sure it’s OK. Any information provided by winners is kept private. Click here to read the GHC Privacy Policy.
GIVEAWAY RULES
- Comments will close sometime after 5:00pm pacific time on SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 14th.
- Only one entry per person.

My favorite horse thing… the English Saddle. Not sure if it actually counts as a horse thing, but yep that’s my favorite “horse thing”. Why? It reminds me of so many memories in the past. No horn, elegant, shiny, and leathery. When I ride in one, my mom always says that I look like one of those girls back in the “old days” when they used to ride side-saddle. I told her I look more like a cowboy in old jeans, a cowboy hat, and a dirt covered T-Shirt. Then she said that cowboys ride in Western saddles. I nearly cracked up. It probably doesn’t sound funny, but you just had to have been there.

My favourite horse things are the horseshoes my aunt gave to me. One is from her horse, Shar, the other is from her sisters pony, Tear. They are special to me because Tear and her owner moved to the other end of England after that visit, and I had bonded with Tear over the few evening visits, and was hoping to be able to ride her if I had more time. Shar is now very old, and has been loaned out befire he retires. It will always remind me about the friendly thoroughbred who could gallop like the wind.
If I win I would like: 7, 4, 5, 1, 2, 6.
(I already have number 3)
My favorite horse thing….. hmmmmm…. I would have to say that it is the bucket full of hose supplies my sister got for me. I got it before I had a horse, but it came with a blue halter and lead, sponges, hoof pick, curry comb, combs, flick brushes, etc. I loved it so much and once I had a Halter I knew I was going to get a horse! I know use the bucket for feeding time and ise everything else daily. It makes me so happy!
