My Dream Horse Taken and Never Returned

I have always loved horses, but when I’m at home and can’t get to the stables I go bike riding. Last year I found a new path that ran by a lot of farmer’s fields. I followed it only to find that it ended at the entrance to a private livery yard. There were only three horses — a big white one with only one eye, a brown one with a lovely black mane, and a white Shetland Pony. I went there everyday for three weeks after that.

I went on holiday, and when I came back to my riding stables (which was awful because they wouldn’t let me off the lead rein and I’ve been riding for 10 years) there was the little white Shetland Pony. His name was Skooby and he was really sweet. That afternoon I went down to the horses again, and when I got there the owners were unloading a horse from a horse box. He wouldn’t move and I offered to help. The owners agreed and I took the lead rope and brought him out of the horse box with a gentle word and some carrots. His name was OZ, and although he was too young to ride, I loved him.

A few week’s later I was going to stay with my grandparents in Reading for the weekend. When I came back OZ was gone and Skooby had been sold. I burst out crying. I keep a picture of OZ on my wall and always think about him. The yard is now empty and although it has been almost a year since this happened I still go there hoping that he will be there. But he never is and I always cry for him.

I will never forget OZ and never stop hoping that I will find him one day.

  1. He was a young horse so some people were interested in him and bought him you think? It is a grand thing to share life with a beloved animal. But I take my mum’s word… if you don’t own an animal don’t get attached to it because it will only make it harder when the time comes. I hope you do get to see Oz one day but until then maybe you should share your love with other horses that could use it. Believe me Annabelle, I know where you are coming from.

  2. One more thing.. Annabelle did you ask the previous owners where he went? Maybe you should get in contact with Oz’s current owners if possible

  3. All I can say is, don’t keep your heart on that one horse. Just keep on riding lots of different horses, someday the one who is REALLY perfect for you will come along.

  4. I agree with stargazer. Another horse will come.

  5. True you should love all horses especially the ones who are broken hearted or sad.great blog though annabelle!

  6. Never give up looking for your dream horse Annabelle! My thoughts and prayers are with you!
