Nightmare: Chapter 2

She watched it for several minutes. The horse seemed to be sunning itself. She warily crouched down in the trees, and jumped when it snorted.

She cursed silently as the wind changed direction. Catching her smell, the horse-thing clambered to its feet, staring at the trees. It couldn’t see her, but it obviously knew she was there. It worked its mouth uneasily. Fiala recoiled. It’s teeth were sharp.

The horse lowered and raised its head, like the horses back home did when they were looking at something unusual. Then to Fiala’s horror it began to make its way toward her.

She wanted to move, but it was looking right at her and she couldn’t. This was not a natural creature. She compressed the shivers running up her spine and over her shoulders as the
horse-thing came closer.

It was standing right over her now, and turned its head so as to look at her with one eye. Fiala fearfully stared up at it. The eye seemed full of images…
