Enya lived by herself in a small, decrepid hut at the edge of the village. She was rather strange and, although no longer young, got along by herself very well. Some said that she had lived with the faeries before she came to the village, others said she was a witch, and Fiala was rather intimidated by her.

Careful to keep the horse-thing out of Enya’s precious garden, Fiala stepped up to the door and knocked. Almost immediately the door was opened by a petite, silver-haired lady of middling age. Fiala dipped her head respectfully.

“Why hello, Fiala.” Enya greeted. “What have you got there?”

“I was wondering if you knew,” Fiala told her. “ I found it up in the meadows by itself. It’s very friendly.”

“Hmm,” Enya replied vaguely. “Well bring her in then. Don’t want too many people seeing.”

Surprised, Fiala led the creature into the little dark house. It balked a bit, but when she insisted, it followed her cautiously.

Enya struck a candle and opened a window facing the backyard. Fiala closed the door behind her. The creature looked around fearfully.

“Villagers are experts at being excessively narrow-minded and anything the tiniest bit unfamiliar upsets them,” Enya explained. “I would say this would frighten them quite a bit.”

“So what is it?” Fiala asked.

“That…” Enya said, pulling a carrot out of a drawer and feeding it to the creature, “…is a Nightmare.”
