The Unasked ~ A Poem

Published by • Jul 24th, 2009 • Category: by Madelaina, Poetry

by Madelaina, age 13

I asked for the sun,
To bring golden relief to
Shadow-captured air.

To be fearless, yet
Bestowing jeweled purity
On ripples of flaw.

I asked for its home
To be free from bruised clouds,
Unscathed by terror,

Untie netted chance,
Send it to girls, letting them
Dare to be free, fly.

Skies never promise,
The sun can always lie, but
Horses pleased my wish.

Fearless, they soar,
Battle the rain, mock the sun
Triumphing all fears.

They guide us on flights.
Wishing for no repay, and
They do it unasked.

Author’s Note: For a change of speed, I wrote this poem in seven haikus. A haiku is a Japanese form of poetry consisting of three lines (when written in English). The first and third lines are of five syllables and the second line is of seven.
