Tips for 24/7 Riders

It’s a happy time for horse riders out there who live some place cold… where it snows… which means not a lot of time to ride your beloved horse! But spring is here. It felt like winter lasted forever. Your horse is ready to get out and ride. And so are you! We all want to ride 24/7. Here are four tips to not over-doing it so much:

ONE.ALWAYS finish your homework and chores before riding. Think of it as a reward and something to look forward to after the not-so-fun things are over. Then, you won’t have to worry about your mom or dad saying, “Sweetie? Did you finish your homework?” I hate it when they try to ruin our horse-bonding time…

TWO.STRETCH before you ride. If you’re sore before you ride, you’ll just be more sore after. And if you are in sports or dance classes, you won’t be feeling up to going to those lessons. Do some “lunges” before you stretch, or try some “butterflies”. For more information on stretching, read my other blog, Stretch Those Legs!

THREE.DON’T stay out too late riding. Do most of your riding time on the weekends, or when there’s no school. If you ride on the weekdays, be sure to take a watch with you so you can check the time and not be late for dinner, or something else you might have to do.

FOUR.BE SURE to check on your horse, too. If you’ve been riding for a long time, don’t over-work your horse. Go back home and do more riding tomorrow. Horses need rest, and they should have a good sleep before being ridden again.

Remember, be safe while having fun! I hope these tips helped you!
